After spending the Summer of 2014 in Oakland, CA working closely with producer Jeff Saltzman (of The Killers, Blondie, Two Gallants & more) multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Angelica Tavella, otherwise known as Nyx has released her first Synth-Folk EP entitled ‘Showdown’, which is is now available digitally and via vinyl pre-order here.
Playing all of the instruments on the EP from drums, to modular synthesizers, to guitars and vocals, Tavella’s unique songwriting takes a new direction from her previous folk-driven music background playing small venues from Oakland, to New York, to Turin (where she is originally from).
Nyx’s music and debut ‘Showdown’ EP has been described as a “voice that sounds like nothing else out there. Crooning like the lovechild of Annie Clark and Billy Corgan”. There are noticeable 90’s grunge and alternative rock influences throughout the EP, said to be “a preference for fuzzed out guitars a la St. Vincent’s ‘Huey Newton’ “, in addition to psychedelic and ambient synth drones throughout.
After finishing a Winter Northwest tour to Vancouver and back, Nyx is currently working between Oakland and Los Angeles on her upcoming full length album, and preparing for a summer 2015 Southwest tour.
